Digital Citizenship Challenge
February 23rd, 2020 | Fredericton, NB
In today’s digital age, Canada’s democracy is under threat. Cyber attacks, online bullying, voter apathy, fake news, confirmation bias, and more are making it increasingly difficult to be an informed and engaged citizen. However, in every challenge lies opportunity and Global Vision believes the next generation of Canadian innovators have the solutions to not only overcome these threats but develop a new age of world-class digital citizenship for Canada.
That’s why we launched an open competition for solutions through our Digital Citizenship Initiative. We're asking Canadian youth aged 16-25 to submit their ideas on how to strengthen Canadian democracy by addressing pressing issues in the digital age.
How can you get involved? Develop a 1-1.5 minute video pitch that proposes a solution to one of the following digital citizenship challenges. The best applications will be selected for an online competition where you have a week to post the video online and get your online network to like, share and re-post to spread the word across the globe!
At the Gala you’ll have the opportunity to connect with and learn from like-minded youth and leaders from government, industry and the not-for-profit sector who are working to make an impact on Canadian democracy. You’ll also be able to host an online forum on the digital citizenship topic of your choice with youth from across the country.
How to Apply
To enter the competition, create a video about one of the following topics: cyberbullying, your digital footprint, clickbait, cybersecurity, social media algorithms, confirmation bias, fake news, or digital citizenship as a whole. Then, post your video on YouTube, and share it on at least one other social media site (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Twitter accepted), and tag Global Vision (@myglobalvision). Your post must contain the hashtags #myglobalvision #digitalcitizen. You should also submit the link to your YouTube video, and your location using the form below.
Is there a cost to attendance?
No, winners whose videos are selected based on level of engagement and quality of submission will be invited by Global Vision and provided with flights, food and accommodation for the Digital Citizenship Conference and Gala taking place March 19th- 21st in Fredericton, New Brunswick!
How old do I have to be?
Usually participants to the caucus are between the ages of 16-30, but we believe talent has no age! If you’re interested in making a difference and connecting with brilliant people across the country, don’t hesitate to apply!
